The Freeway Phantom | Serial Killer

As someone who has read and worked on a number of various true crime cases over the years I am shocked and have to admit that I had never heard of the ''Freeway Phantom'' case. Earlier this week I was putting a list together of various cases including unsolved cases and requests from my Patreon subscribers when I stumbled across this one. I felt straight away that I had to research this case and share it on here.

This is a horrible case where six young African American girls (the victims were aged between 10 and 18) were abducted and murdered, in most cases, sexually assaulted, most of them had been found with no shoes on and their bodies were left along roadsides in Washington D.C.

The murders were said to have been carried out between April 1971 and September 1972 by a male perpetrator known only as the ''Freeway Phantom''.

I think it's important for this case to be shared and talked about more as there could be someone out there with crucial information. It would be ideal if Netflix made a documentary or if the case was to feature on Unsolved Mysteries. Even though it is classed as a cold case and the murders took place in the 1970s, you never know what may happen, we've seen historical cases being solved in the past, I have covered some of them here on my blog. It's important not to give up and hopefully one day the families of these girls will get some kind of justice and closure.

Before I talk briefly about the victims, I just want to remind you that you can find me on Patreon and Kofi where you can donate if you enjoy my weekly posts or would like to subscribe for more exclusive content which includes my mini podcasts (I call them mini but some of them can be 20 minutes long), regular updates, behind the scenes of my research, bits of my life, my erotic stories and poems, newsletters and more. Back to the case...

According to investigators, the Freeway Phantom was responsible for six murders and the case remains unsolved to this day.

The first victim that we know of was 13 year old Carol Denise Spinks. Carol was running an errand going to the grocery store to get some essentials for her sister and some soda for herself on the 25th of April 1971. I assume that Carol must have visited the store previously and probably felt safe with it being a public place, the store was located about half a mile from her home. But something happened on that day in April, Carol didn't return home with the shopping and she was reported missing. Members of her family together with volunteers searched the local area but they could find no sign of her. Six days later her body was found behind a hospital. She was found with her clothing on but her shoes were missing and there were signs that she had been sexually assaulted, beaten and strangled. Some green fibres were found on her clothes but investigators could not determine where they came from.

The second victim was said to have been 16 year old Darlenia Denise Johnson who didn't live that far from Carol. Darlenia was on her way to work at her summer job at Oxon Hill Recreation Center when she vanished on the 8th of July 1971. A witness came forward to say that they had seen Darlenia in an old black car along with an older African-American man. Darlenia regularly took this route to her work and had plans to stay over at the center that night so when she didn't return that evening, her mother assumed she was there however Darlenia didn't make it to work. When she didn't return home the next day her family became worried and they reported her missing. Sadly, Darlenia's body was found 11 days later located just 15 feet from where Carol's body had been found. Darlenia's body was badly decomposed and she had to be identified by her fingertips which had to be removed.

The third victim of the Freeway Phantom murderer according to investigators was 10 year old Brenda Faye Crockett. Like Carol, Brenda was sent to a local grocery store on the 27th of July 1971 but failed to return home. As time went on her mother went out to look for her whilst her partner and Brenda's sister stayed at home. At some point in the evening the phone rang and Brenda's sister answered to find Brenda at the other end of the phone. Brenda told her sister that she had been abducted by a white man and taken to Virginia but that she would be returning home soon in a cab before the call cut off. Around twenty-five minutes later, the phone rang again and this time the partner of Brenda's mother answered. It was Brenda calling again and he asked her if she knew where she was in Virginia, Brenda asked if her mother had seen her. There was a sound of footsteps in the background before Brenda said ''I'll see you'' and then hung up. There were no phone calls after this.

Sadly, Brenda's body was found eight hours later. Investigators found that she had also been sexually assaulted, strangled and green fibers were also found at the scene.

The fourth victim according to investigators was 12 year old Nenomoshia Yates who had also gone missing after going to a local grocery store on October the 1st 1971. Her body was found just three hours after she went missing, again there were close similarities with the crime scene as there had been in the previous three cases. A neighbour had earlier spotted Nenomoshia getting into a blue car around the time of her disappearance but didn't think anything of it at the time. Investigators later found the bag of groceries that Nenomoshia had bought from the grocery store, the items were strewn across the street as if someone had just grabbed her and pulled her into a car.

The fifth victim was said to have been 18 year old Brenda Denise Woodard who was travelling home in Baltimore, Maryland after spending the evening at a night class and then later having dinner with a high school friend on the 15th of November 1971. She was last seen boarding a bus home and sadly the next day her body was found. The circumstances of her murder and the crime scene were similar to those of the previous four murders but a couple of things were different, Brenda had defensive wounds on her body, especially her hands which indicated that she tried to fight against her attacker. A note from her killer was also found in her coat pocket which read:

''this is tAntAmount to my insensitivity to people, especiAlly women. I will Admit the others wheN you cAtch me if you can! FRee-wAy PhanTom''

(The note found in Brenda's coat pocket. Picture credit: pressreader.com)

Investigators believe that the paper used was that of Brenda's notebook. They also believe that the killer forced Brenda to write the note.

After Brenda's murder the killer did not strike again until 10 months later when he claimed his final victim, that of 17 year old Diane Denise Williams. Diane went missing after visiting her boyfriend's house on the 5th of September 1972. Diane's body was found a few hours later in similar circumstances to the previous victims but investigators couldn't determine if she had been sexually assaulted. Traces of semen were found on her body but Investigators assumed those to have belonged to her boyfriend but he claimed that he and Diane had not had sexual activity in the hours leading up to her going missing.

During the police investigation into the cases they had interviewed a number of people and potential suspects but found no evidence to link them to the murders. One person did stand out however and that was a man named Robert Askins. Robert had a history of sexual violence against women and the police searched his home and car. Various items were found during these searches including: pictures of young girls, female scarves, buttons and a gold earring. However, the police could find no evidence to tie him to any of the murders and none of the fibers in his home or car marched the fibers that were found at the crime scenes. Robert died in prison in 2010 after serving time for the abduction, rape and murder of two other women. He was 91 years old.

A group of men by the name of the 'Green Vega Rapists' were also looked upon as strong suspects. The gang were known for sexual violence against women. After an investigation into each of the members, it was found that there was no evidence to tie them to the Freeway Phantom murders.

This case has been opened and closed a few times with no leads. In 2001 it was re-opened and an award for $150.000 has remained in place for anyone with information. The original investigation into the murders was poorly handled and a lot of evidence and important files (and the semen DNA which was found on Diane Denise Williams's body) went missing.

It's heartbreaking to think that this case has a high chance of never being solved unless the killer themselves (if it is even possible that they are still alive or someone the killer knew who knows valuable information) comes forward. I will be talking about this case and my thoughts on my mini podcast over on my Patreon page.

RIP to Carol Denise Spinks, Darlenia Denise Johnson, Brenda Faye Crockett, Nenomoshia Yates, Brenda Denise Woodard, Diane Denise Williams.

Thank you for taking the time to read my latest case.

Nurses Who Kill: Lucy Letby & Beverley Allitt

The name Lucy Letby might not ring any bells with you especially if you're not from the UK but it's a name that has been in the back of my mind for the past few years. In 2018 I was watching the news when a report came on about a series of unexplained infant deaths on a Neonatal Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, England. Little babies were mysteriously dying and all fingers pointed to the same nurse who'd just happened to always be there when these children had passed away.

The news reported that this woman had been taken in to be questioned and that the police were searching her property and the investigation was ongoing. Over the next few months things went quiet and the case was put to the back of my mind, I assumed that the woman must have been let go by the police and that the case was dropped. I've since found out that this woman who was finally named as 30 year old Lucy Letby, had been on bail and the police had actually arrested her a total of three times, the third being this year (November 2020).

The police are 100% confident that they have their killer and whilst I looked over the newspaper articles and listened to the news reports about the case, one name jumped to the front of my mind.....Beverley Allitt. I will be going into why the Lucy Letby case will be opening old wounds and the connection to the Beverley Allitt case in this post. It's important for me to mention that Lucy is yet to go to trial and has pleaded innocence. She has attended a few court hearings and her family have been standing by her.

(Lucy Letby. Picture credit: News Need News)

None of us like to admit that we judge sometimes based on appearance but some of us do especially when it comes to professional roles and as you'll see in this post, both Lucy and Beverley had that innocent, wholesome, nice girl look about them, the sort of girls your mother would approve of. But behind the friendly smiles and bubbly personalities were two cold blooded killers who took the lives of children and stood and watched as the heartbroken parents of their victims sobbed their hearts out.

I'm currently keeping my eye on the Lucy Letby case so I will update you when I know more. I know that more horrific details will be shared and we could be looking at another female serial killer in the UK. At her most recent court appearance she was denied bail and there is a considerable amount of evidence against her. Lucy is said to be responsible for the deaths of eight babies and ten attempted murders. [Lucy Letby UPDATE!]

So, let me tell you more about the Beverley Allitt case. Beverley was a trainee nurse in her early twenties who worked on a children's ward at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital in Grantham, Lincolnshire back in the early 1990s. The children's ward was very understaffed and wasn't properly supervised. Despite Beverley's lack of experience (she'd previously struggled to get through her nursing training barely scraping a pass. She also complained of various illnesses and had quite a number of sick days off of her training. There were also some strange things that had happened at the trainee nurses quarters, things being set on fire, human faeces being left in the fridge and under cupboards. All fingers pointed to Beverley but nobody could prove it) a role was created for her on the ward because they needed an extra pair of hands and Beverley was finding it really hard to find somewhere that would take her on (she never got past previous interviews).

(Beverley Allitt. Picture credit: Daily Mail)

Beverley was quite a quiet person and seemed to be very friendly towards the staff and the patients however, behind closed doors Beverley was a completely different person. She was born on the 4th of October 1968, one of four children and seemed to have a somewhat normal childhood apart from the fact that she could not stop lying and this was a huge trait of her personality that she carried on up to adulthood. To gain attention from her parents or teachers, she would intentionally hurt herself or fall over. As she got older she would try this same routine with boyfriends that she had. Her previous partners said that she lied constantly throughout their relationship, was obsessed with her health and created false illnesses (including injecting water into one of her breasts so it would appear larger than the other) through most of it and had even beaten up one of her boyfriends in a rage.

So before Beverley Allitt (who is now referred to as The Angel of Death) even set foot on the children's ward she had a very dark history behind her of violence, lies and delusions.

How did she manage to get the role? It's simple, they didn't bother to give her the proper security checks that a nurse working with vulnerable people (especially babies and older children) should have. There was a staff shortage and the more experienced nurse that was supposed to be training Beverley didn't do her job properly. What I also found shocking in my research is that Beverley was left pretty much to her own devices and that staff had a suspicion that something very sinister was happening on the ward after the child deaths but failed to raise the alarm straight away for fear of the ward being shut down and funding being put on hold.

On the 15th of February 1991, Beverley was offered a six month contract and began working on the ward where she had access to things that she shouldn't have had. The first child to die at the hands of this evil woman was a beautiful seven week old baby boy named Liam Taylor on the 24th of February. NINE DAYS!, just nine days from when she first started working there, that's how quickly she started killing, she didn't waste any time carrying out her evil crimes.

The next victim to lose his life at her hands on the 5th of March 1991, was eleven year old Timothy Hardwick. Timothy had Cerebral Palsy and had been brought to the children's ward by his parents after he suffered an Epileptic seizure.

[In between the murders there were also attempted murders and as it was a hospital setting (where cleaning would regularly take place) it was very difficult at the time to establish what had exactly happened to these children. The common factor in all of these deaths and the children who suddenly fell even more gravely ill was that Beverley Allitt had been present with each child. Some of the children who were injected with heavy dosages of insulin (which was her favourite method to use) managed to pull through with the help of other Doctors, some children were able to recover fully when moved to another hospital]

Becky Philips was only two months old when her anxious parents brought her to the hospital. Becky had Gastroenteritis and knowing how serious that can be in such a young baby, they wanted her to be in the best place possible to receive whatever proper healthcare she needed. Beverley Allitt saw another opportunity to kill and before Becky was sent back home with her parents, she administered a heavy dosage of insulin which killed Becky two days later. Becky was at home when she died so at the time it was thought that she had died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Becky had a twin sister Katie who was brought into the hospital as a precaution after Becky's sudden death. One cannot imagine how Beverley Allitt found the nerve and coldness to stand in front of these two distraught parents who'd already lost one child and were in fear of losing another. Beverley put on the performance of being the caring nurse and she was so good an actress that Becky's parents asked her to be the Godmother of Katie. Despite all of this, Beverley did her best to try and destroy this family even more by trying to kill Katie. Little Katie fought twice for her life after Beverley had administered fatal dosages of insulin and potassium into her blood stream. The first time, the Doctors were able to rush in and save Katie just in time. The second time, when everyone left the room and Beverley was again alone with the child, Beverley injected her again causing Katie to stop breathing and turn blue. Thinking her plan had worked this time and it would be too late to save her, Beverley raised the alarm, pretending to show concern. Luckily the Doctors were able to get Katie stable where she was moved to another hospital but by then a lot of damage had been done. Katie had suffered permanent brain damage and continues to need medical assistance to this day (Katie received a 2 million pound compensation payout in 1999 to help pay for her medical bills).

Claire Peck was admitted to the children's ward on the 22nd of April with Asthma complications, she had been a regular at the hospital since birth so both she and her parents were well known by the staff. Again, it was a situation that Doctors had managed to get under control but when left alone with Beverley Allitt all hell had broken loose. Claire was only fifteen months old when she was murdered.

There are stories of other children who came so close to death, all the circumstances similar, all injected with high dosages of insulin, all were left alone with Beverley Allitt and whenever she wasn't around or if the children were sent to another hospital they seemed to make a miraculous recovery.

Eventually an investigation took place and all the evidence lead back to Beverley, who of course denied everything and because she was such a good actress some people actually believed that the ''lovely, friendly'' Beverley had been stitched up by the police.

It got to the point where there was so much evidence against her that even she knew the game was up and told friends that she would make sure she was never be sent to prison. She was assessed by healthcare professionals and they determined that she should be sent to prison (Beverley refused to eat and drink so that she would be sent to a Psychiatric Hospital instead like she planned). She was described by experts as manipulative and suffering from both Munchausen's Syndrome (where you fake an illness or accident in order to get sympathy and attention) and Munchausen's Syndrome by proxy (fabricating or causing an illness to someone else in order to get attention). It was clear that Beverley had been showing characteristics of these two psychological illnesses since childhood.

When Beverley went to trial she was charged with four counts of murder, eleven counts of attempted murder and eleven counts of Grievous Bodily Harm. She was found guilty of all charges and given thirteen life sentences, she will never be released. She is currently 52 years old and is carrying out her sentences at Rampton Secure Hospital in Nottingham. Some of the Parents have spoken out about how disgusted they are that she is in a more comfortable environment when she should be in jail and I couldn't agree more.

So, as you can see the reason why the Lucy Letby case reminded me of what happened with Beverley Allitt. Who knows what horrific details we are yet to learn about Lucy's case but one thing I do know is that what these monsters did was pure evil and I don't care that they are women. Some women can be just as evil as some men can be and sometimes they can be even worse.

I will be sharing my thoughts on both of these cases in my mini podcast over on my Patreon page.

RIP to all of the victims of Lucy Letby (the names have been kept from public knowledge out of respect for the families), God bless the survivors and their families.

RIP to Liam Taylor, Timothy Hardwick, Becky Phillips and Claire Peck. God bless the survivors and their families.

What Happened to Abby & Libby?: The Snapchat Murders | FINALLY SOLVED!!!

(Monon High bridge Trail. Picture credit: indystar.com)

You'll will no doubt have heard of this heartbreaking case which is often referred to as 'The Snapchat Murders''. Let's get into the case....

Libby (14) and Abby (13) were like two peas in a pod, the best of friends. You would never see one without the other. They did everything together and shared common interests such as sports, art and music. Although young, they both had that kind of friendship that you could see lasting a lifetime. To strangers they could have been sisters, it was a unique and special bond and yet they had different traits about each other that seemed to just fit, like they brought out the best in one another.

If you were to ask their families or anyone else in the small town in Indiana where they grew up, you would never hear a bad word spoken about them. Both the girls were well liked, very close to their families and had very bright futures ahead of them but sadly something horrific happened to both of these girls on the 13th of February 2017 which nobody could have imagined happening, not in their worst nightmare.

(Abby and Libby. Picture credit: wrtv.com)

Libby (Liberty Rose Lynn German) and Abby (Abigail Williams) wanted to make the most of their day off of school on the 13th of February 2017 and with both being keen photographers with a sense of adventure they decided that they wanted to spend some time at the Delphi Historic Trail which was located near the Monon High Bridge. The bridge was abandoned but people tended to go there for the scenery and take pictures. Fashion bloggers would pose in their outfits there and even wedding pictures were taken there. To look at the bridge, in my opinion as someone who is scared of heights I think it is very unsafe. The boards look like they could fall through at any moment and there doesn't appear to be a rail at either side, you could just imagine a gust of wind blowing you over the side.

Anyway, the two girls thought it would be a great idea to take some pictures there and make the most of their day off from school. They planned to upload some pictures online onto their favourite app which was Snapchat

The girls asked for permission to go to the trail and were told they could only go if someone was going to drive them there and bring them back home afterwards. It was arranged for Libby's sister to drop them off and for her Dad to pick them up later. When Libby's sister dropped the girls off all seemed well, the girls were happy and there didn't seem to be anyone else around.

Libby and Abby were having fun, taking pictures and uploading them to Snapchat but later on that afternoon when Libby's Dad messaged her phone to let the girls know he was there to pick them up, he got no response. At first he thought it might have been a signal problem or Libby's battery had drained. As time went on and there was so sign of the girls panic set in amongst their family members.

(One of the pictures of Abby that Libby had posted on Snapchat that afternoon of the 13th of February 2017. Picture credit: abcnews)

Libby and Abby's relatives went to the trail themselves to search, keeping an open mind, thinking that maybe the girls got lost or had no battery left on their phones. With no further sign of the girls and text messages and phone calls unanswered, the families of Libby and Abby contacted the police.

That night, the police and volunteers from the local community searched as much as they could but with the darkness upon them they decided to call off the search for that night and resume again in the morning.

The next day around lunchtime the heartbreaking news came through that Libby and Abby had been found deceased.  It was horrific news for a small town where everyone knew everyone and they considered where they lived to be one of the safest areas in Indiana. The news that the two young girls were murdered sent shock waves through the local community and beyond.

The police have never revealed how the girls were murdered which has led people to believe that the details are too horrific that quite possibly the police do not want to disrespect the family or the girls in any way by sharing such personal information.

The next day the police released a photograph of someone they claimed to be their prime suspect. Whilst the girls had been on the bridge taking pictures and having fun, they spotted a man walking towards them (according to the FBI website, the suspect was described as a white male between the ages of 18 to 40 but could appear younger. He was wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket and a hoodie. They estimated that he was between 5''6 and 5''10 weighing 180 to 220 pounds. The suspect was also said to have reddish-brown hair but they couldn't get a clear indication of eye colour) and managed to capture a few seconds of this man on Libby's smartphone.

Obviously being two young girls in the middle of nowhere with a strange older man walking towards them must have been quite scary for the girls and at that point Libby's instincts must have kicked in because she did what she could to try and record what was happening.

This is a haunting case and not only have the full details of how the girls died been kept private but the full content that Libby was brave and smart enough to record has also been kept confidential. The police did release a snippet of the audio on Libby's phone and it is chilling. The girls are silent, a very eerie silence with a male voice coldly saying ''Guys....down the hill''. You can hear the audio of that clip here

The clip together with the artist impression of the suspect is all that has been released to the public about the case so far. There's no indication as of yet if the police plan to release any more information. When I first heard about this case a while ago I remember reading a comment on You Tube (I don't know if this is a legit statement or not but I thought I would include it here) where someone said they had been listening to a true crime podcast where an investigator who had worked on this case had been interviewed. Apparently the man didn't go into too much detail but did say that he saw and heard a lot of the evidence on Libby's phone and what he heard and saw shook him to his core. He said that he could hear the perpetrator's voice and he swore it was just like listening to the devil himself. He also said that the girls looked terrified as if they knew what was about to happen.

That horrible sentence that we have all heard, ''Guys...down the hill''. It's only four words but it's very haunting and just the feeling about it is very cold and uneasy.

There's a number of theories about this case, some people believe that the murderer had a gun and was pointing it at the girls instructing them to go down the hill, hence why there was no word from the girls, they could have been in fear and shock.

To this day, this heartbreaking case remains unsolved. Various people have been questioned and some were viewed as suspects at one time or another but further investigation and lack of evidence made the police cross these people off their list. Questions remain unanswered, the hurt and anger continues and I always talk about how my heart goes out to the relatives who's loved one's are either missing or have had their lives taken by a suspect who is still out there walking the streets.

Will this case ever be solved? I hope and pray that it does. A lot of people who have followed this case would like all of the content on Libby's phone to be shared but there may be another reason why the police have kept it all confidential and only released that snippet. Like I mentioned about that person's comment before, what that investigator heard and seen on Libby's phone haunted him. The footage and details of the murders are possibly too disturbing to be released to the public.

There may come a time in the future where everything will be released as is often the case, who knows.

I just wish this case could be solved, the girls and their families deserve some kind of peace of mind and justice.

RIP Libby & Abby. I didn't know you but I loved reading about the people that you were and were on the cusp of becoming, the light you brought to other people's lives and the bravery in which you displayed in those final terrifying moments. God bless you both and your families x

I have included the details of how to contact police if you have any information (no matter how small) on the information posters from the FBI website. I will be following this case and will update as soon as I hear of any further developments.

The Sins of The Father: The Horrific Case of The Curry Family Murders (My 60th #TrueCrime case)

(The graves of Ann, Tyler, Erika & Ryan. Picture credit: findagrave)

The case I am about to share with you is one of sheer horror, heartbreak and anger, a case that was considered a 'cold case' for nearly 25 years despite the fact that the police had a very good idea who did it, they just didn't have enough evidence in their opinion at that time of their investigation back in the mid 1980s.

This is my 60th true crime case that I have covered and this is quite a milestone for me. All of the late nights, the time, the effort, the blood, sweat and tears have all been worth it to get to this point. I appreciate all of the support, views and donations from those who read my posts. Before I begin, just a reminder that I am on Patreon & my birthday is coming up on the 5th of November so if you would like to subscribe to my personal blogs or just make a donation, you can do so here

I would also like to mention that this post will be sharing some gruesome details so please bear that in mind.

So, let's begin....

To anyone on the outside looking in, Michael and Ann Curry seemed to have it all. They were a good looking young couple in their twenties with a beautiful house, two beautiful children, Erika (4) and Ryan (1) and Ann was over eight weeks pregnant with a baby boy they were going to call Tyler.

Having a beautiful pregnant wife, two lovely children and a wonderful home would have been most for some people and the dream of others but for some reason, Michael wasn't happy. Side note: as I go along in this post, you will no doubt see some comparisons with The Watts Family murder case. Ann was only 24 years old and about to have her third child with the man she loved, sure they had problems like every other married couple but it was nothing that they couldn't work out in her mind. Michael on the other hand felt trapped, the pressure was on to financially keep his family going. They had been going through some financial issues for a while and couldn't really afford to have another baby.

Feeling the financial strain and tired of his marriage (between the endless bills and always being busy with the kids, there was not much time for just him and Ann. The spark had gone out of their marriage), Michael began an affair with another married woman who worked in the same Hospital with him. Michael worked as a Supervisor in one of the Hospital's offices. It was whilst Ann was in hospital suffering with pregnancy complications that the affair developed from flirting into a more physical relationship.

Little is known about the other woman other than that Michael fell hard and fast for her but things turned sour when her husband found out what his wife had been up to. According to Michael Curry, the man told him that he could hurt him without actually touching him. Michael wanted out of his marriage to Ann but he couldn't afford to pay for a divorce or child support for the three children.

Just three weeks after the affair heated up and the woman's husband finding out, Michael Curry closed the door of his house and went to work as usual on the 29th of August 1985. It was a very hot day and he was only at work for a short while when he decided that he was going to leave and pick up a fan from a local store. Michael left at 9:40 am and had been gone from the office for three and a half hours. When he returned, he had a fan with him but colleagues noted that he was drenched in sweat.

What nobody at the time knew was, that Michael Curry had actually gone home, waited for his pregnant wife and children to come back to the house (he knew they had been visiting Ann's mother that morning and had to go shopping for a birthday gift not that far from the house). Michael took the bush axe he had bought just a few weeks earlier out of it's storage place and waited for his family.

It's not known in what order the murders took place but Michael went psychotic and used the axe to brutally murder his family. Ann suffered a violent blow to the head and had her throat slashed in such a ferocious manner that she was almost decapitated. There were also injuries to her chest from where the axe had struck her. As if this wasn't harrowing enough to read, what that monster did to Erika and Ryan was almost to hard for me to share with you but I want to give you the truth of the situation.

Little one year old Ryan died not far from where his mother lay in a pool of her own blood. Michael had struck him across the head with the axe. He was later found covered in blood and his little hands were gripping the carpet.

Having to face the details of what this evil man had done to Ann, his unborn child and little Ryan was almost too much to deal with but what he did to Erika was even more sickening. Michael struck her so hard with the axe that he ripped her jaw off. The little girl's teeth, glasses and bits of her mouth and jaw were found scattered around the room. Nobody could imagine the sheer horror, fear and agony this children and their mother went through at the hands of the very person who's job it was to love and protect them.

Reading about the crime scene was very hard and I've covered a lot of true crime cases. I was filled with heartbreak and anger.

After murdering his beautiful family, Michael returned to work as if nothing had happened. He later returned and pretended to have just discovered the bodies. He ran to the next door neighbours putting on a performance shouting ''They've killed my family, why did they kill my family''.

The investigation was a total joke. Investigators couldn't find any blood on Michael, they figured he must have been wearing some overalls when he did the murders. There was also some confusion with the times in which the murders took place because of the hot weather and the house itself had the heating turned up (this could also have been done by Michael in a way to have the bodies decompose quicker). Questions were raised from day one, a door in the house had been smashed from the inside, obviously Michael had tried to make the crime scene look like a break in. Nothing else in the house was touched and Michael claimed that he had checked the bodies when in fact he had no blood on him.

You're not going to believe this but the cops let Michael go for almost 25 YEARS!!!! Despite it obviously being him, leaving work for three and a half hours to find a fan, the affair, the lack of blood on him, the bush axe that he had bought weeks before the murders that was kept in a place that only he knew about. All fingers pointed back to him but they still let him go.

Michael moved to another house and carried on with his life, thinking he got away with it. Can you imagine how Ann's family must have felt?

In 2008 however, Michael was in his 50s and the case was reopened (can you believe it took 25 years?) and he was brought to trial. In 2011 he was found guilty on all counts, he tried to appeal but it got thrown out.

Finally after 25 years he was brought to justice but it never should have taken that long.

I will be sharing my thoughts on this case over on Patreon
