True Crime With Caledonian Kitty

So as we approach the end of the year I decided to look back at all of the cases I have covered this year and make a note of which ones got the highest of views. This year my blog has been popping and it's been amazing and thank you to all who continue to read my posts. You might see some posts that I have previously written way back in 2020 or 2019 included and the reason those are included is because they are still going crazy with the views. I have an amazing number of regular readers but new people come onto my blog every day and I've been loving it. 

I've also been enjoying the messages on social media and the emails I've been receiving from you. I appreciate it all. Of course I have had some interesting emails too from relatives of victims, murderers family and even cult followings of some of the offenders I have written about. Some even going so far as to pose as the offender but that's a long story and one I don't plan on sharing just in case they are reading this lol. 

Are you excited about 2022? I always approach a New Year with an open mind because who know's what will happen and with all that is going on with Covid you just never know what the situation is going to be. 

In regards to my blog, I have had a successful year this year and I'm very proud and will continue to bring you more content in 2022. I hope you continue to find my work interesting and informative.

So let's take a trip down memory lane and see which posts made the top 10 of most popular true crime posts by yours truly....

1) The Husband From Hell - Mitchell Quy 

Mitchell was a sadistic psychopath and tried to control his young wife. When she suddenly vanished he claimed that she had simply walked out on him and their children. He took part in numerous interviews and played the part of the father and husband done wrong. The truth was far more dark, more sickening than anyone could imagine. 

This post was very popular this year (and one that has been copied from my blog and onto other blogs or YouTube channels quite a few times lol) 

2) The Sarah Everard Story

This was a gut wrenching case which stirred up both heartbreak and anger. We all hoped and prayed that Sarah would return home safe but sadly it wasn't to be. I wrote about the case in the beginning as a way to help spread awareness that she was missing. As the days rolled on and more of the truth was revealed, it was just too much to bare. To learn of the true details of her final moments on this earth and to learn that her horrific end was all down to a twisted and sick monster who was a police officer just sent shockwaves through the UK (especially to women everywhere). 

3) The Panty Thief Killer: Russell Williams

He was the nice guy that everybody respected, a true professional at his job and had rubbed shoulders with members of the Royal family and the elite in Canada. He was a happily married man who had many friends so it was a deep shock when Russell Williams was exposed for the pervert, rapist and cold blooded killer that he really was. 

4) My Pictures Were Stolen And Put On A Porn Website 

I wrote about my personal experience with having my pictures stolen and used to create fake accounts. This was terrifying at first and I managed to get this situation sorted out but you know what? I've had another handful of these accounts pop up again using my pictures. I have one that is live right now on Instagram and as much as myself and my followers have reported it, IT'S STILL THERE, so thanks a lot Instagram! It's obvious the account is not really me but if people want to be stupid and pay money to a catfish there's nothing I can do about it, I have informed people that it is fake and my official links are here

I still get regular emails about this post asking for help from girls who have had the same thing happen to them. 

5) Death of A Heavy Metal Legend: The Shocking Murder of Dimebag Darrell 

A heartbreaking loss to the music industry and to the world in general. Dimebag was a big teddy bear and to this day his loss is felt. I delved into what really happened to him and the other people involved as well as the murderer in this post. I have had many emails from devoted fans of his who actually met him or were present at the scene. 

6) The Horrible Truth About Actor Eric Cullen

Quite a few people were shocked by this post, people who had grown up watching shows which Eric featured in had no idea of what happened. 

7) The Secret Life of Claudia Lawrence: What Really Happened?

To this day the Claudia Lawrence case remains a mystery. Recently a search was underway in York but the police have said nothing further so everything remains up in the air with this case. In this post I talk about the facts of the case which some may feel uncomfortable with especially the fact that Claudia had links to several married men. It's important to include that factor when talking about a possible motive for why someone would kill her. Was it a married man who she threatened to expose? or an angry wife who found out about the affair? Who Knows? Check out the post if you haven't already done so and see what you think. 

8) The Gruesome Story of Glyn Dix

I remember how shocked some of my readers were about this case, it was very insane and very sickening. If you haven't read about it, I will leave you to check it out yourself. 

9) Hidden In Plain Sight: Darren Vickers 

Horrendous case which stirred up anger and still does to this day. This monster was a bus driver who abducted a little boy and did some horrendous things (I go into the sickening details in my post). The little boy was reported missing and he had the nerve to contact the family and play Mr nice guy pretending to help knowing fine well what he had done. 

10) The Beauty Queen Killer: Christopher Bernard Wilder 

Here we have the serial killer Christopher Bernard Wilder who would target young beautiful women. He is one of those serial killers who isn't spoken about much but is every bit as sadistic as the monsters we see constantly glamourised (cough 'Ted Bundy' cough) in movies and TV series.

Before I really get into the questions on this final Q&A post, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has read, commented and sent me messages about the posts, I really appreciate it. 

Christmas is just around the corner and I'm feeling festive, I hope you are too. 

So let's get stuck into these remaining questions shall we? 

1) Would you ever cover the OJ Simpson case and do you think he's guilty?

Oh what a juicy question or two questions lol. Do you know what? Instead of answering this question with whether or not I find him guilty, I will cover the case in a future post and give my opinion on there so stay tuned. So at least one question is answered for now, yes I will cover the case and thank you for the request. 

2) Is there a case recently that has been true crime related that has affected you?

I just found out the horrific story of the little boy, Arthur Labinjo Hughes. This poor child was put through sheer hell at the hands of his stepmother and father who tortured and poisoned the child until they eventually murdered him. Both of them are behind bars and you can read the whole story here. Such a horrendous case and your heart just bleeds for that little boy, may he rest in peace. Let's hope his callous killers know no peace.

3) Do you believe in the death penalty?

In certain cases where the evidence of guilt is completely there 100%. If there is any element of doubt then the case needs to be looked over again and no execution should take place. 

4) You wrote about Gary Glitter and Ian Watkins recently, do you think they should be forgiven and give another chance?

Wow! what a question. What I have come to realise since writing about these two individuals is that they still have fans, devoted fans at that. I don't think child abuse should be forgiven and I don't think paedophiles can be cured. As for another chance I think these two would be best just going somewhere else where they can be monitored and kept apart from children. I'm not a psychologist so I don't know their state of mind and whether being in prison and publicly hated has had any impact on them. 

5) Would you please cover BTK? and what do you think of him?

I've had BTK on my list for a while but I never covered him because of Mindhunter but now that the show is said to be on hold (OMG PLEASE BRING IT BACK), I will cover the case. He is a complex character and very fascinating and I don't mean that in any sort of positive way because this man is beyond evil. His level of evilness knows no bounds and he talks about his victims like he's reading out a shopping list. 

6) What do you think of women who write to serial killers in prison? 

It's a fantasy for them, they are insecure, lonely women who maybe don't have the confidence to form a relationship with an everyday guy or have experienced negative relationships in the past. The idea of a man held in a prison with no other women around seems to appeal to these women. If he is a criminal and especially a high profile one there is that boost of it being a risk and they think that the murderer they are writing to will never harm them because they are 'special'. There is an element of narcissism here too because they think that they themselves have the power to change the man they desire and that they will be treated differently than his victims. It is sad and pathetic and very disrespectful. Sadly for these women a lot of them find out the hard way when they write to these type of offenders in prison. They find themselves being used, being one of many women and simply just a means to an end. It's therapy that these women need as often the contact with these predators does them way more damage psychologically in the long run.

1) Has there been a case that you've covered that has given you nightmares?

I don't know about nightmares but each case has left it's mark on me. It's difficult just to pick one out that has affected me the most because I've written about so many cases but off the top of my head I would say the Jessica Lunsford case, the horrific murder of Barry Wallace and of course the devastating stories of Sylvia Likens and Kriss Donald

2) Which serial killer would you interview and why?

I've probably answered this question in the past and maybe gave a different answer but in this moment I would have to say, the late John Wayne Gacy or Edmund Kemper. I'm not sure why as I have written about a few serial killers but with these two they had quite complex personalities but I'd be interested to hear more about their backgrounds, more than what we already know and have read in books. 

3) Who has done the best on-screen portrayal of a serial killer in your opinion?

As if I have to answer this question because you know what I'm going to say if you're a regular reader of mine..... the fantastic Brian Dennehy in To Catch A Killer. If you haven't seen this movie, stop what you're doing right now and go and watch it here / part one and here / part two. Brian's portrayal of John Wayne Gacy leaves chills down the spine. 

4) Which is the best? Manhunter or The Silence of The Lambs?

OMG! You can't do that to me. I am dedicated to them both and love them both for different reasons. I saw The Silence of The Lambs when I was 6 years old and I wanted to be like Clarice and join the FBI whilst other girls my age were playing with Barbie dolls. I love both movies and often binge watch both. 

5) What was the last true crime related documentary you watched?

It was more of a movie than a documentary but it was called The Lost Girls and I actually have the book based on the real case. It may still be available to watch on Netflix but it was heartbreaking. 

6) Are you currently reading a true crime book, if so, which one? 

Right now I don't have the time but there's a little stack that I'm determined to work my way through. I will be posting about them soon.

In this little series of posts we are going to have a right good natter about the darker things in life, I'll be answering your questions and hopefully you will find my answers interesting and maybe you'll find out a little bit more about me along the way, so let's get into it...

1) Do you worry that someone else is going to steal your content or is using your true crime content right now?

This actually happened not that long ago, I wrote all about it in this post. Someone on YouTube had stolen my content from my Husband From Hell: Mitchell Quy blog post and I sat in shock as this female narrator with a mature voice basically read out everything I had written word for word. There was drama about it because I confronted the coward but she hid behind the screen so I was never able to identify who she really was. My followers weren't happy about the situation either. She blocked all of us and no doubt the video is still on her channel. Good luck to her, I say....see how far she goes when she's too lazy and uneducated enough to do her own work. I see podcasts using my blog as a ref all the time, they do credit me but at the same time I don't think it's right to go onto someone else's blog, read all the details that you couldn't be bothered to research yourself and then sticking it on your podcast or channel. It tells me that these types of people are not really passionate about what they do, either they are in it for the money, attention or just jumping on the bandwagon. I have no doubt that my posts are probably somewhere right now being passed off as someone else's work, I shall have to put a spell on these people (Evil laughter).

2) Do you have a favourite true crime podcast?

I always say Trace Evidence because I'll tell you the truth, I don't have the time to really listen to podcasts and there's so many of them now. Steve stands out from a lot of the others because he works his ass off putting each episode together and he's had many experiences of having his content stolen. If a podcast is really good, like REALLY good, I will listen but honestly, I enjoy reading books from real criminologists like Prof David Wilson and Christopher Berry Dee. Some podcasts go on way too long with Bob and Margaret banging on about what they think, I'd rather hear from the experts that actually worked on the cases. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of podcasts have used my work for ref so you can usually tell when they are just reading someone else's work, have no real idea about the case and are just throwing out opinions at the end of it. Not all podcasts are the same so don't shoot the boots off of me, I'm just saying that you have to really go through and see which one really interests you and if it is proper quality as well if you are thinking about setting up a paid subscription. 

3) Have you ever been to a true crime convention?

I have never been to one but I would love to go. 

4) Have you ever been inside a prison?

Yes I have, only the once and I saw Amy Winehouse's ex husband Blake in this visiting room whilst I was there which was quite an odd experience having always seen him with Amy on TV and in the newspapers. I will talk about that in a future post if anyone is interested? 

5) What do you think of these vigilante channels on You Tube that feature undercover groups exposing pedophiles?

This is going to sound irresponsible to some people but I think what these people do is fantastic! It's a scary world that we live in and children are getting snatched off the street right, left and center by these types of monsters. I have written various horrendous stories on here and I've not even touched the sides. These monsters should be shamed and exposed for what they are, at the end of the day, children's safety is a priority and agree with it or not, these groups have stepped in and saved quite a few children from falling victims to these disgusting perverts. 

6) Is there a law that you would like to see in place? 

There's so many! I would like to see harsh sentencing for animal abusers and Internet trolls. I want to see Fox hunting banned. I would also like to see people jailed straight away if they have exposed themselves to others. It annoys me to this day that a lot of these types of perverts get away with a caution. As we've seen time and time again, this is a major red flag that these monsters are going to go on and do worse, look at the Sarah Everard case for example. I would also like more protection for victims of crime, stalking and Domestic Abuse. I also don't agree with murderers being released early from prison under new identities and lifestyles all paid for by the tax payer.

Today is September the 11th, the 20th anniversary of the devastating terrorist attacks which took place in the US in 2001. Today is always a difficult day for me as it is for a lot of people. My plans were to have a quiet day, to watch the memorial, light a candle and pay my respects in my own way. I still plan to do this but something is weighing heavy on my heart and I need to rant about it so that I can get it off of my chest and move on.

If you've been a reader & friend of mine (I class all of my readers as friends) for a while, you'll possibly remember a post I had written back in 2019 about a well respected true crime podcaster who was constantly having their work copied by Youtubers (you can find the post here) who were basically reaping all the views and financial gain from this man's hard work. 

Well, I was pissed off about the situation, this guy had a full time job and busted his ass researching, editing, writing, organising and putting together videos every week only for lazy chancers to come along and just copy everything he did. He was aware of it and it caused him a considerable amount of stress as it would to anyone who'd seen their hard work stolen. He almost gave up his podcast over it. Luckily his readers and others in the true crime community caught on to this pretty fast but unfortunately I'm sure there's still people out there who copy his work, being online there's always that risk. 

Well darlings, it seems like it's my turn! I've had my blog for a few years now and it's something I am very proud of and worked tirelessly for. I'm always amazed at the amount of views that I get on my posts everyday but it's true what they say, hard work does pay off. I don't do this for fun or to make money (although that would be amazing), I do this because I have a passion for it and you can tell that by all of the hard work, detail and time that I put into it. I want to be a true crime writer, that's my dream, to have my books on the shelves at Waterstones. 

I studied Criminology at university and have had an interest in true crime since I was a child. This is something I am serious about. Unfortunately with the popularity of true crime documentaries now, it seems that a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon trying to make a few dollars. I have friends in the true crime community who work so hard on their content because they are truly passionate about it but there are some of the newer crowd who are trying to create their own channels by using other peoples work (and when I say 'using other people's work', I mean, word for word, even copying layouts, titles etc) and setting up Patreons to make money. 

I have a popular true crime blog so it's inevitable that I was going to be copied at some point, still doesn't mean that I'm not annoyed by it. I have had various Youtube channels who have used me as a source, as much as I don't agree with using blogs as sources (it's lazy, you should do your own research yourself) these people didn't copy me word for word. 

Last night however, a new Youtuber was brought to my attention and to say I was pissed off is an understatement. I sat in shock and utter disbelief (felt like I was in an episode of The Twilight Zone) as I watched this video (I'm not including the link cause she's had enough views from my work as well as other bloggers): The Husband From Hell: Mitchell Quy (this was posted a month ago on this copycat's Youtube channel: Beyond The Pale). You may remember that I posted about this story back in 2020: The Husband From Hell: Mitchell Quy

Well, Beyond The Pale (@beyondxo_pale ) took chunks of my blog together with another blog and read word for word like I had written in my post, basically doing an audio of my blog post then trying to get away with it by including me as a source with another two true crime blogs and a newspaper article (which was also the first newspaper I publicly listed in my sources - oh, what a coincidence) in the links below the video. If this sad woman was such a huge fangirl of me she should have just asked for a collaboration if she's not bright enough to do her own research. Like I mentioned before, I don't agree with using blogs as sources but if you want to ref a quote or at the very least make sure all your words are your own and you have done proper research like others who have referenced my blog. You have to put in the work in order to be taken seriously. The coward behind Beyond The Pale has no public face and sounds like a middle aged woman, straight off the bat, she loses credibility as someone in the true crime community because she's been exposed as a word for word copycat in the early stages of her channel. If she's copied me, you can be damn sure she copied other people.

I confronted this person on Youtube and Twitter and was blocked (says it all really). My readers and friends also left comments on her Youtube channel which were removed and they were also blocked. It seems that when this person gets called out for their actions, they like to remove comments and block people. It makes you wonder how many other people she has done this to and is currently copying right now. 

Anyway, here's some screenshots of me trying to communicate with this fangirl of mine (Single White Female vibes) lol: 

She knew she'd been caught out by myself and my readers and thought she could squirm her way out of it. Plagiarism is Plagiarism, she read word for word of paragraphs from my original post from this case (even in the order I had written them in, the unique sayings I have and the title was also copied) which I published in 2020. Blatantly doing an audio of my work and then listing me as a source is just a bullshit way of trying to get out of it. 

I posted on all of my social media, warning my followers about the fake accounts. 

So that's the situation as it stands, the Instagram account and the porn account is still online, hopefully not for long. I will be taking a break from posting next Sunday as I'm on holiday but I will be posting a new true crime case after that so stay tuned. 

Please be careful online, this sort of thing can happen to anyone and I'm lucky that my followers informed me because I was oblivious to these fake accounts.

Well, as you know, recently I posted part one of my 2021 Q&A edition so I've decided to continue with part two in this post with the questions that I didn't get around to answering. I hope you enjoy the post!

Q1: Of the different types of cases that you cover, which do you find the most challenging to do? 

I think the most challenging is the cases involving children or where dismemberment, physical torture or sexual assault has taken place. I know my readers want the facts as difficult as they may be to hear/read and I try to write the details in as much of a sensitive way as I can. I always put a little note on my post beforehand that the content that I will be sharing in that particular post will be quite disturbing. 

Q2: When doing the research for the cases that you cover, do you sometimes find difficulty finding information?

Luckily I've been able to find a lot of information about the cases I've covered so far. If there was a time that I couldn't get enough details I would either include a brief mention of the case in a compilation post or I would just leave it. I think The Acid Bath Killer is probably the most earliest case I have covered but I do plan to do some more historical ones if I can find a right amount of correct information. The older cases can be difficult to research especially if they are not high profile. I've had requests many times to cover Jack The Ripper but the case has been talked about so many times just like the Ted Bundy case, it's been overdone. 

Q3: Do you find more eras to be more difficult to research (for example, cases from the 1950s?)

I think I just went on a roll with this in the previous question lol but like I said before, the oldest cases can be hard to research if they are not high profile. The Acid Bath murders which occurred in the 1940s is well known and documented through books, movies, newspapers and documentaries plus I know the area where the killer grew up so it was easy to research. 

Q4: Do you find it difficult researching cases that have occurred in other countries outside of the USA/UK?

I have plans to include more cases from outside of the USA/UK. There has been a couple of cases from Russia, Germany, Australia etc that I have been looking at and plan to cover. I have a list so keep your eyes peeled. Luckily I have a vast number of books on true crime which include cases from all over the world so I always look to them for reference and then I start my little research journey to find out everything I can about the case. 

Q5: Has there ever been a case that you began working on that proved too gruesome and difficult to continue? 

I've written some difficult cases but the first that comes to mind is a case that I covered in November of last year (2020) The Vampire of Sacramento. I don't know how I got through it and I take my hat off to anyone who is able to get through reading it. At one point I wasn't going to continue but somehow I did, I had done too much work on it already and it was a case request so I wanted to get it done and move on. It was a very gruesome experience. 

Q6: When starting a new case, is there a set routine you go by for compiling information?

I have a list of cases that I'm interested in covering and I also have requests from my Patreon & Ko-fi subscribers too. I have a bookcase full of true crime books which include encyclopedias of different serial killers and cases. I read what I can find of the particular case and then I look for court documents, FBI files, newspaper articles and any videos of trials, police interviews etc. 

Q7: As you have a Patreon, Kofi and your YouTube channel. What are the future plans with your writing? 

It's always been my goal to have my own true crime books. I also have plans for my YouTube channel so keep your eyes peeled for that. Shilo is an independent artist and self taught so that always impresses me. His influences include Rudy Sarzo, Guns N Roses and Def Leppard. You should definitely check him out online as he's one of the most nicest and talented people you could ever meet. 

Q8: Do you ever encounter any issues with the true crime community?

I've been asked to do true crime videos and podcasts so many times and I respect the people who make them as I know it is hard work but there is a lot of negativity and fierce competition. I have always been interested in criminology from the age of 6 when I saw The Silence of The Lambs. I was interested in the FBI and Behavioural Sciences and I later went on to study Psychology and Criminology at University. There's positives and negatives with all these online communities, I just carry on with my work and promoting myself, I'm not interested in fame, I just want to be known as a great writer, to have my blogs seen as interesting, informative and hopefully one day my books will be in the true crime section of the bookstores. 

Q9: There has been numerous reports of women and men being harassed daily on social media. Have you ever had to deal with this? 

Unfortunately this is a common everyday occurrence not just for me but for lots of people online. Just like the subjects that I write about, there is a lot of unwell people online who either become fixated on someone or they spew venom at every turn, I have had the experience of both. My best advice is to not respond and just block with the venomous ones. Put it this way, if you're so miserable in your life that you have to send hate to someone you are envious of, you have major issues and a Doctors appointment is needed. I have written about trolls and their negative impact on people (The Dark Side of The Internet: The Amanda Todd Story) previously. As with the other types of harassment where you get creeps annoying you, I get this every day and the funny thing is, is when they try and use my blog to get close to me when they've never read a single thing that I have written. Or there's the guys who tell me they love my work and bombard me every day but never subscribe to my Patreon or Ko-fi. And last but not least are the ones who send me endless creepy pictures of themselves. I usually rant about these experiences on my personal blog. 

Q10): If there's one thing that you wish your readers would take away from your work, what would it be? 

I would love any new visitor to my blog or regular reader to come away from my posts feeling that they found out something about a case that they never knew before or discovered a case they hadn't heard about. I hope they find my posts interesting and hopefully when my books do come out (I'm continuing to work on this dream) they will be eager to order them.
