True Crime With Caledonian Kitty

I wasn't going to write about this horrific case although it was on my mind these past few days, especially with the sentencing of the two evil monsters involved. I also had some emails asking me to cover the case but I felt it was getting to me too much but I think it's important to share this story because, again, childcare and social services in the UK have failed another child. Like everyone else who knows about this case, I am angered, disgusted, distraught and fed up of innocent children losing their lives and suffering in the most painful of ways because lazy, uneducated people can't or won't do their jobs properly. If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know my thoughts and feelings towards social services in the UK. 

My heart breaks for a lot of couples who cannot have children and dream of the day that they can welcome a little bundle of joy into their lives, or give a young abandoned child, a happy, loving home. I think it's ridiculous that decent, genuinely loving heterosexual couples are having to fight tooth and nail to adopt children. They wait for years and it's not an easy thing to go through. Obviously it's important that the potential foster parents are well vetted but it seems that even though they pass the tests and meet all the requirements, they are still put to the back of the queue and it's not fair. In this horrendous case, two men who were in, what they described as a loving partnership, were fast-tracked through the adoption process because they ticked all of the diversity boxes. Despite not having any proper experience with children except for the fact that one of them was a high-school teacher, Jamie Varley. He told authorities that he had looked after relatives children and knew how to handle teenagers in a classroom so looking after a baby 24/7 would be a piece of cake for him....apparently. 

I don't have to explain to you that babysitting here and there and looking after a class of teenagers is a huge difference to looking after a vulnerable baby. I'm not a parent myself but I helped look after my Godson to the point that I would get up in the middle of the night, prepare his bottles, bathe him, walk around holding him in my arms until he settled and fell asleep (wonderful memories). I know the hard work it takes to look after a baby and the hard work is all worth it because you have this beautiful little person in your life. Being a Godmother was such an education for me, before my Godson was born I felt him kick, saw him on the scans and prepared for his arrival. Being a Godmother is such an honour and it's a role that I have always treasured. With Jamie Varley he claimed that it was his dream to become a father one day but he never thought it would happen. His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley had no experience at all with children but apparently had his heart set on becoming a father too. 

Despite their application for adoption being fast-tracked, Jamie was becoming frustrated with the time it was taking. He was always known to be the 'over-dramatic' one of the couple and could be moody, impulsive and impatient. John was more of the quiet, laid-back one, it was clear who was the leader in that relationship. John worked as a sales manager for a finance firm so they both were financially stable (that was the only thing that was 'stable' about them). 

On the 16th of June 2022, a beautiful baby boy was born at Wythenshawe Hospital, located in Manchester. The birth of any newborn baby is a beautiful miracle but this little baby who was named Elijah (Later to be called Preston) was born into difficult circumstances. His mother Sarah led a very hectic life, being back and forth to prison for various petty crimes and worse....she was a convicted murderer. When Sarah was a young teenager, she brutally attacked and murdered an elderly woman in her 70s. So the thought of her being in charge of looking after an innocent little baby was not ideal. It must have been incredibly difficult for her to have to give up her son for adoption but the life she led was just not good for a child to be around. His biological father wasn't exactly the best option either. Sarah's mother later said that she would have loved to have taken care of Elijah (I'll call him Preston now, so not to cause confusion) but she was battling cancer at the time.

Preston was taken into childcare services and was quickly placed with a lovely family, The Coopers. Sandra and Paul Cooper had decades of experience looking after babies and young children. It was their role to help prepare Preston for his eventual full-time foster family. They took care of him for 10 months and they fell in love with him as anyone who's ever seen him would. Preston looked like a little cherub, little wispy curly hair, lovely blue eyes, cute dimples and a cheeky smile, he was adorable. He went through a lot in the early months of his life, young babies can sense changes. He'd been taken away from his mother and been placed in different environments, different sounds, different smells, different people. It was a lot for a young baby to deal with. It was understandable when The Coopers said that Preston could struggle sometimes on an evening when it was time to go to sleep. They would do their best to help relax him and it just took a little bit of extra care and soon he'd drift off to sleep with no problems. Having looked after so many children over the years, Sandra and Paul had seen this all before and knew what to do, they had the patience and proper experience to handle these types of situations.

It was clear that Preston was settling in with The Coopers and doing really well but the time had come for him to be placed with his new foster parents. As heartbreaking as this was for The Coopers, they knew that this was part of the process and believed that Preston was going to a loving, caring home where he would be loved as much as they loved him. 

Preston was placed in the care of Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley who lived in Staining, Blackpool on the 1st of April 2023. It was decided between the couple that Jamie would stay at home full-time with Preston whilst John continued to work because he earned the most money. The first night was pretty shaky and Preston struggled to sleep which is understandable. Anyone with a brain cell or experience with children would know that Preston would need that extra bit of caring and reassurance to know that he was safe and everything was ok. These two were hopeless, John was clueless and claimed that he left everything up to Jamie because he thought that he knew what to do, with him being a high school teacher. As the days and nights went on, it was clear that the 'novelty' of being a foster parent, and splashing cute pictures of Preston all over social media, was starting to wear off. They soon realised that looking after a baby, especially a baby who had quite a disrupted start to life, was actual work. They had to put Preston's needs first and they were not happy with that.

Jamie began to resent Preston and it wasn't long before he was moaning about sleepless nights, having to look after Preston and sending messages to John and others, telling them how annoying Preston was. At this point, you would think that these idiots would have done the right thing, realised that parenthood was not for them and had Preston placed with another family who would look after him properly. But no, and not just because they wanted to carry on the status and attention of being seen as amazing fathers who adopted a cute little baby, they had other plans, very sick, disturbing, just utterly vile plans. 

John later claimed that he noticed that Preston had various bruises and cuts on him but Jamie would explain that it was just Preston being clumsy. John tried to play down his role in everything and later tried to throw Jamie under the bus but the truth was, both of them were sick, disgusting, evil and dangerous pedophiles who began to use Preston as a sexual object. They also tortured the poor child and would keep him awake with loud music. They would shout in his face to startle him and record these horrific moments, seeing Preston confused, terrified and in pain made them laugh. Whilst John was at work, Jamie would sometimes take Preston to the park and placed him on a roundabout which he would spin extremely fast, causing Preston to panic, his eyes to dart quickly from side to side and he would vomit. Jamie would record all of this and send the videos to John. He also put comedy music on over the videos because he found it hilarious to scare the life out of a little baby. 

The Coopers who always did check-ups on the children who had previously been in their care, were becoming quite concerned. Sandra was trying to get in contact with Jamie and John on a number of occasions but it was clear they were avoiding her. Understandably worried, she contacted authorities and then all of a sudden Jamie and John were ok for her to visit Preston. Sandra was relieved to see Preston again but had a sense that something was not right, Preston seemed to be acting a bit odd and the behaviour of Jamie and John was making her suspicious. Sandra shared her concerns with authorities but the concerns fell on deaf ears. This was another case of people being scared to say or do anything because they don't want to be seen as homophobic. 

The neighbours had noticed that Preston was always crying but Jamie (ever the performance artist) always came up with excuses to explain things away including telling people that Preston was a clumsy child who would fall over or bump into things hence the bruises. Jamie continued to take horrific indecent pictures and videos of Preston which he would share with John. 

On the 23rd of May, Preston was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties and a bruise to his head. Jamie told the medical staff that Preston had pulled a toy box over his head and was a clumsy child, always getting bruises. He produced a video (which had been filmed previously and was in no way connected to this incident) and the staff accepted this as a suitable explanation and attributed the breathing difficulties to a chest infection. The staff as well as social services declared Preston's injuries to be a result of a baby just trying to walk and move around. Poor Preston was sent back to hell with these disgusting monsters to endure more pain and suffering. 

Preston was rushed to the hospital again a second time on the 30th of June 2023, he was vomiting and had a high temperature, rash and diarrhoea. They noticed bruising again on the head but excuses were made and accepted. Preston was sent back home with the two dangerous pedophiles. 

A third rush to the hospital occurred on the 6th of July 2023 because Preston mysteriously had an injury to his arm. This again was excused and the monsters even received a message from a social worker telling them that they had done the right thing in bringing Preston to the hospital and that they had nothing to worry about. These two monsters must have thought they were untouchable, the abuse of Preston only got more horrifically worse. 

Social workers had been to the house and made a note that Preston wasn't himself but that's all these people do, make a little note in their little pads, collect a paycheck and move on to the next (in my opinion). Jamie's intense hatred for this little baby was becoming more and more obvious, as well as constantly moaning in text messages to friends and colleagues about how difficult life with Preston was, he told a work colleague that he had thoughts of actually killing Preston. Instead of being alarmed, this self-centred moron (cause let's face it, who would be friends with this guy) just cast that aside and went about their day. If a person told me that they had thoughts of murdering their child, I would make sure that something was done asap to ensure the child's safety. 

Time after time, Jamie and John had shown they were unfit to take care of Preston, Preston was clearly not being looked after. The visits back and forth to the hospital, the social workers who noticed a big difference in Preston, Sandra Cooper constantly trying her best to get the authorities to listen to her, negative text messages about Preston to friends and colleagues, the comments of thinking about murdering him....what the hell was it going to take before somebody stepped in and took this beautiful, innocent little boy away from these disgusting cretins?

It boils my blood every time because you see with these situations (as you know I have written about endless similar circumstances in the past) that there is a pattern, so many red flags and evidence all the way through that clearly show that a child is in danger but for some reason these people in these positions choose to do nothing. These people all need to be held accountable for the part they played in this child's suffering and his horrific death. 

Back in hell again with these monsters (because that was no home, that was hell) these two sick and vile monsters took pictures and videos of Preston and committed the most horrific and the most disturbing (I can't even find the words to describe it) sexual assault on a baby. The details are horrendous, the pair of them had the poor child bent over his cot whilst they did unspeakable things. Preston had been penetrated in his private area causing extreme internal injuries to his bowels etc. He also had a penis or both of them, forced into his throat. It's just utterly horrific and unbelievable. The understandable anger that this has caused has filled everyone who knows the details of this case, with rage. Preston was in complete distress, his little body was shutting down. They thought they'd gotten away with it again but it was clear that Preston was not coming back from this horrific attack. Preston's lips were blue, he couldn't breathe and Jamie left him struggling like that for 1 hour and 45 minutes before he finally took Preston to the hospital. At the hospital, medical staff battled in vain to save Preston but the 13 month old little cherub sadly passed away, his tiny body couldn't take any more. 

Jamie came up with another pathetic story that he had accidentally left Preston in the bath for too long and that he drowned. On further investigation it was clear that Jamie was lying. There was no water in Preston's lungs and he had 40 internal and external injuries. The injuries to his body were obvious to see that he had been severely r*ped. 

Jamie and John were taken into custody. John was trying to play the part of the easily-led one who wasn't sure what was happening and placed all the blame on Jamie. Jamie was arrogant and rude with investigators saying that they were making a huge mistake and that he would fight until his dying day to clear his name. All the evidence was on their phones and their DNA/semen was found in the cot, horrendous evidence. The sick videos and pictures which they kept on their phones to play over and over again. It was all vile beyond words!

Despite the huge mountains of evidence against them, they had the cheek to plead not guilty of all charges. They finally faced their trial in April 2026 and both were found guilty. John (32) was sentenced to 25 years in prison and Jamie (37) was given a whole-life order which means the only way he's getting out of prison, is in a body bag. Knowing that Jamie is now in Wakefield Prison (aka The Infamous 'Monsters Mansion') he might end up at the fiery gates of hell much quicker than we think. We've seen recently that a few disgusting child predators and murderers have had, shall we say 'tough justice' behind the bars of Wakefield Prison. I have heard that the inmates were looking forward to welcoming Mr Jamie Varley. I also heard that he is terrified and has been his usual over-dramatic self, only this time, he does have something to cry about. His fellow prisoners don't take too kindly to child killers. As for his equally evil and sick partner, John, it is unclear which prison he is in as the details have not been made public as of yet.

RIP Preston, you're cute, cheeky little smile lives on in our hearts and you will never be forgotten. 

This system needs to change because these beautiful, innocent children are losing their lives, there's no excuse for it. Everyone involved in this mishandling of this case needs to be held accountable.
